human rights? With human rights day being celebrated yesterday, how do you see your govt stance on human rights? how do you believe that your basic human rights are protected?
Human Rights? Ok, I'm writing a report on how China is violating Tibet's religious rights. Would article 18 apply to what I'm writing about? article 18: Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance. This article is from the declaration of human rights. Go to un.org, click on human rights, then declaration of human rights. I have to base it off one of those rights.
Human rights? Are foetus human beings? Should they be given full human rights? i.e. the right not to be killed and the right to live the American Dream.
What are the fundamental rights and human rights Australians have? I'm Australian and often hear people say that the right to freedom of speech or the right to be free from torture or slavery is a human right. Where do these rights come from if Australia has no bill of rights? Is it from the UN covenant on civil & political rights or social & cultural rights? What are some examples of human rights, if they don't come from this document? (i already know some of the rights on this document, such as right to be free from degrading torture, slavery, have shelter) The other thing is where do our fundamental rights come from? Fair enough that our human rights are inalienable and apply on everyone, but what's the difference between them and fundamental rights? Please explain by definition, example & source (ie the law in which f rights are found). Thanks :) Reason why i ask is because there's an upcoming law exam i have to face and have to familiarize myself with the court presumption: "Parliament does not interfere with fundamental rights ". “But when Parliament enacts a law which contains some ambiguity, the courts will favour an interpretation that is consistent with our international obligations, if such an interpretation exists.”- which do they prefer more? An interpretation that is pursuant to the purpose of the Act (s33 Interpretation Act 1987 NSW), or one that would lead to a reasonable, un-absurd result (i.e. is the limiting/violation of rights an absurdity?) Should i even be worried about this? Nvm, it’s probably going to launch me into an ethical debate in the exam rather than using what i’ve been taught. Just skimmed through the second last link you provided. That stuff is awesome, i never find those speeches. Thanks, law expert.
What philosophical reasoning underlies the concept of Human Rights? I've rationally never fully grasped human rights as something absolute, but rather relative. Emotionally however, I tend to show a strong support for the concept of human rights, but that feels very shallow, knowing that it derives from my own feelings and nothing objective. Is there any rational and objective philosophical reasoning behind the concept of human right, and what is it?
Where should I volunteer for human rights work? I'm looking into volunteering for different human rights organizations. In particular, I'm looking into volunteering for more global issues, if that makes any sense. I've looked into Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. The former doesn't have many opportunities and the latter looks like it's more for local volunteering, which I don't necessarily mind but I would prefer working on global issues. Any advice?
How should we react to the latest human rights abuse in China? Yuan Weijing, wife of activist Chen Guangcheng, has herself been arrested on the way to the Philippines to receive an award for her husband. He has been imprisoned for exposing corruption and abuse in the "One Child Policy" including forced sterilizations and involuntary abortions. Under the communist government's one-child policy, urban dwellers are allowed one child and rural families can have two if the first is a girl. Ruthless enforcement has triggered widespread opposition, especially in the countryside. But Communist Party officials and the rich often ignore the law themselves. Yuan has said that Chen, who is blind, had been severely beaten in prison. Human Rights Watch had previously labeled her husband's case an example of the "significant deterioration" of rights in Communist China. Shouldn't those who value human rights consider a boycott of China? Paris Traveler Many people have the same take that you do but its my opinion that it is the USA that has the advantage. China could certainly cause a devaluation of the dollar but that might well be good for our economy. It would be very bad for the Chinese because the dollars they hold represent their profits.Devalue the dollar and they devalue their own holdings. Moreover, the Chinese economy would be destroyed if exports to the USA ceased for even a very brief time. The complete panic they are currently experiencing over health and safety concerns by Americans proves this. The bottom line is that the USA could revert to manufacturing all its own consumer goods at any time but China's economy cannot exist in the absence of the American market.
Why has democracy and human rights failed in islam? If not is it because democracy and human rights have failed in most parts of Asia, Middle east, eastern Europe, Africa and latin america? Will the islam we see taking root in the west become democratic and a respecter of human rights? Will time be the judge?
How can I become a human rights activist? For the fifteen years that I've been alive, I've been struggling to figure out what I want to do after high school. I'm currently in the ninth grade and I've recently realized that I want to make a difference. I'd like to become a human rights activist. However, I'm unaware of the post-secondary education requirements (if there is any), or where I could go to get this information. Please help me help make a difference.
Is the Declaration of Human Rights a fair representation of the beliefs of all the UN countries? The Declaration of Human Rights is based off of the English and United States Bill of Rights, and the French, Rights of Man and of the Citizen. Do you feel it properly represents the interests of the Middle Eastern countries? If you don't feel if properly addresses the difference in culture such as gender equality and freedom of religion. Do you think that those individuals it negates are more afraid of change than have an actual moral grievance?
How can some people turn illegal immigration into a human rights issue? Because it isn't about human rights at all. There is no human right to help yourself to the wealth of your neighbor. This nation is wealthy because the citizens of this nation have built a system that is conducive to the creation of wealth. The illegals, and the citizens of Mexico who actully do have the national pride to remain in their country, have every right, however, to change their system to make it more friendly toward wealth creation. That means the rule of law, an independent judiciary, an end to corruption, respect for individual rights, a strong system of property rights, and express limits on government power. Until they realize that, and implement those elements of good government, they will remain poor. They have so right, however, to take from others what they are not willing to make for themselves. Justme: That's what revolutions are for. It worked wonders for us. Bridget: Being human doesn't resolve root causes. Sure, it's great to put water in the desert, squirrel illegals away in strip-mall churches, and hand out free food, but does that ever address the root cause? No, that only prolongs it and makes it more entrenched. Alleviating the effects of the problems in Mexico only does a greater disservice to those still there. Humanitarianism is great, but blindly committed, it can be more harmful than good. Just look at the negative effect that indiscriminate "aid" has had on the development of Africa.
What is a country that has suffered due to lack of human rights? Wellllll.... I need to write about when lack of human rights can cause a country to have economic disadvantage, poverty, bad health and sanitation, or political stability. i looked at north korea and a few others... but although they have lack of human rights, and have had famines which have killed hundreds of thousands of people etc... they aren't exactly DIRECTLY related to lack of human rights.
Is giving human rights to corporations as bad as withholding them from humans? Will the Supreme Court's granting of human rights to corporations result in the oppression of human beings? It gives unlimnted power to the wealthy elite because they will have overwhelming control of the messages provided to the masses. Bwana: If you really beleive that the framers intened the bill of rights to apply to corporations, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. It is just like the Dred Scott decision but not as legally well reasoned.
What organizations are there that fight for human rights? I have been thinking about this for a long time and would like to become proactively involved with fighting for human rights, or for those who do not have a voice against opression. What are the best organizations to contact for this?

What exactly are the human rights issues that are being voilated in Tibet? There are obviously a lot of news stories about Tibet and how their human rights are being violated, but what exactly is China doing to them? I haven't been able to find any info on this. Thanks for the first two answers and I think my next statement can be directed at both of you. If 'Some sour tibetans wants to run Tibet by themselves' or if you take dbrody4's point of view, that 'Chinese are taking over the Tibet nation', why did the dalai lama say he didn't mind China being in charge?
Is countering terrorism really compatible with human rights? I have recently wondered whether countering the terrorist threat can be achieved without transgressing human rights. The democracies of the western world seem constrained by the way they must treat their citizens; leaving them much less protected. If human rights were suspended in response to a national threat then governments would surely deal with the problem far more efficiently. However is this to greater price to pay? Is it essential we we hold respect for human rights above anything else, whatever the cost may be?
What steps could be taken to improve human rights laws for Gypsies? How would be the best we to ensure equal rights for us, so that we no longer have to break the law to have a home, but have full rights as U.K citzens. How could implentations of human rights be fairly bought foreward to cover us from discrimination? What measures should there be?
What is the relationship between human rights and UK constitutional law? I basically have a constitutional law essay but am finding it a little hard to come to grips with constitutional law. How do we let Arab countries preach to us about human rights? How have we convinced ourselves that every culture has an opinion worth considering on human rights? Does the Taliban have a point of view on physics that is worth considering? No. So how is their ignorance any less obvious on the subject of human wellbeing?
What will evolve in the field of human rights? What oppositions to or rejections to liberal ideology...? What will evolve in the field of human rights? Based on present trends, what rights will societies extend to aboriginal peoples, other minorities, women, etc? What oppositions to or rejections to liberal ideology do you see happening early in the 21st Century? Will the present oppositions/rejections continue or will new ones arise? Are they or will they continue to be political, social, economic and/or religious in nature?
Why do american conservatives appear so insensitive to human rights and minority interests? An ultra-conservative regime "ran" america for 8 years. During those 8 years it has been brought to light that the right consistently disregards human rights and minority interests. This is a terrible hole that we will have to dig ourselves out of. But I am confident that, with the right wing ousted, america will once again be able to have standing in the world. Cheers.
Is Australia is the only liberal democracy in the world without human rights protection? is this true?? im 13 and could somebody please explain this to me? 'Some of our human rights are protected by Australian law, but many are not - including many that people THINK are already protected. For example, we assume our right to free speech is protected by law, but it isn't - only our right to political speech is protected, nothing else.' what about the universal decleration of human rights?? whats the difference?

What is the outlook in international human rights law? I am a high school senior looking at options for future careers in the international domain. I am wondering what the monetary outlook for this carreer is becuase ideally I would like to have about a lawyer's salary in this career. If anyone knows of any websites with career outlook and salary and such, or if you just know off hand, that would be amazing, thank you!
Why is it considered taboo to question human rights? There is no evidence to support the claim that human life is ''valuable'', which human rights are, at least officially, based on. Why is it then generally considered taboo to question human rights, especially as valid foundations are absent?
What we should do to protect our human rights when politicians gangs up with financial speculators? I felt very sad and angry by looking at the current market where the heartless politicians and financial speculators have teams up to speculate in future options for commodities, oils, currencies, ... They have using the terms like "free trade", "market force", "shortage", ... to legalise their speculations activities to be able to speculate in these markets. They also have controlled in the medias and "professional bodies" to lies to common people what they are doing are not speculations. These speculators are making billions of profit from their activities while the common people especially the poors were killed without bleeding. With the authorities to speculates freely in all markets, these speculator can be classified as licensed killers. What should we do to protect our human rights?
What are the human rights problems in Columbia and why are they happening? I need to know a pretty generalized answer and not something copied and pasted from the internet. I'm in Spanish 202 and I have to write an in-class essay about human rights issues in Columbia. I've done some research but its very complicated. I was wondering if someone could give me a generlized overview of the problems and maybe some solutions? Thanks.
What is the point in human rights when it violates other human rights? How do we perfect human rights? Is there really such a thing as "human rights"? When lawyers fight agianst Jessica's Law to protect the rights of the child molesters, they are abusing that child's rights. Child molesters hurt children therefor abusing that's child's right and then along comes the ACLU who claim to fight for the rights of people.. so long of course that they are not Chirstian, disabled, hardworking, or a child. They might as well throw that tagline in there.

If a country is signatory to a human rights treaty & it violates human rights what is the likely consequence? Like just say a country is a signatory to the UN Declaration of Human Rights, & it is found that this country is violating human rights (even though these human rights may not be implemented into their law), can people -within the country or outside - take action against the country? International court? or when a country signs a human rights treaty, does this just mean that the country will try to implement these human rights into their law?
Every single country that applies the Shariah law violated a huge amount of human rights, is this the ideal? you want? I have been told that the ideal Muslim state applies Shariah law, according to the Koran and Hadith, yet every single nation that applies Shariah law (Saudi Arabia, Iran, Afghanistan, Northern Sudan, parts of Somalia, etc) has been the source of some of the worst human rights violation outside a war zone. Is this the ideal that Islam seeks? nsw105: By the standards of international law as agreed apon by the vast majority of humanity; in other words, by the standards of the rest of humanity.
What are the consequences of breaching the Human Rights Act 1998? In my work I feel my Human Rights have clearly been breached on the grounds of Article 10 Freedom of Expression and Article 6 also. However, is this a criminal offence to deny me these rights or is it a civil offence. You see if it is a criminal offence then I can ask the Police to intervene, but if its just a civil offence then all I can do is wait until I get fired then take the company to court. Obviously I'd rather not lose my job in the first place. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.
what are human rights organizations in United States? Hi every one, I am a 45-year-old woman and an American citizen. I have had very bitter experiences in life. And now I am determined to forget the past and start over again. Actually I have nothing but hope. How We Can Bring the Human Rights Violations in Canada to Attention of the United Nations & US Human Rights? The human rights violations is a very serious issue for many Canadian an people around the World. Canadian media is represnting the Goverment and would attack to the citizens like me if we asked them to be professional. The censorship and harassments of the citizens by police, lawyers, judges and their agents are in breaches of all rights under the Charter. Torture, murder and organazed crimes against citizens by the Goverments of Canada, Ontario and Qubec have craeted ample files before all courts and commissions. The life, wealth, business, and bank account of citizens are in constant harassments by local police, CSIS and RCMP. There is no way to file complaints with US & United Nations Human Rights commissions, as all posts, and internet is fully under control of corrupt justice system, who simply issuing warrents against each and every cirizens. Jails are full of poor citizens, immigrants and refugees who were convicted by corrupt prosecutors, and immigrantion police.
