What's the difference between fundamental rights and human rights?

Are they the same thing? I am not sure and really would like to know if it is two different ways to call the same things or if there is a difference between fundamental rights and human rights. Cheers

  1. fundamental rights are mainly present in UN laws and absolutely undeniable and human rights define by your type of government.
  2. a fundamental right to life as ahuman being,a human right to take an active part in society?
  3. A fundamental right is a right that has its origin in a country's constitution or that is necessarily implied from the terms of that constitution. These fundamental rights usually encompass those rights considered natural human rights.
  4. I feel that the differences are rather nebulous, particularly bearing in mind the the European Declaration of Human Rights is the European Declaration of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, which means that both concepts are enshrined in it. Human rights are seen as the "basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled." Examples of rights and freedoms which are often thought of as human rights include civil and political rights, such as the right to life and liberty, freedom of expression, and equality before the law; and social, cultural and economic rights, including the right to participate in culture, the right to food, the right to work, and the right to education. It is hard to distinguish between the idea of having freedom of expression and the right to express oneself orally and in writing. It is also hard to distinguish between the right to life and the freedom to carry on living. In terms of semantics, there is a good argument for saying that they really amount to the same thing.
  5. I think I'd be hard pressed to improve on Caicos' quite excellent answer.
